Bar replay

Play a chart forward from a past bar to practise reading order flow and test ideas without hindsight.

Bar replay hides everything after a bar you pick and then plays the chart forward from there, bar by bar, as if the market were trading again. It works on every chart type, interval and market, with your studies, scripts and drawings.

Start a replay

  1. Click Replay in the top bar. It applies to the active chart.
  2. A blue line follows the pointer over the chart. Click the bar to start from. Esc cancels.
  3. Everything after that bar disappears and the replay controls appear at the bottom of the chart.

Click Replay again, or × on the controls, to go back to the live chart.

Playback stops at the newest bar. You can change the interval while replaying: the replay keeps its time and shows the new interval’s bars up to it.

What a replay shows

  • Bars, footprints, studies and profiles are computed only from the bars up to the replay bar, so nothing reveals what comes next.
  • Scripts and strategies run on the replayed bars; a strategy’s backtest and the Strategy Tester stop at the replay bar and grow as it plays.
  • Heatmap, bubbles and liquidations are drawn up to the replay bar and hidden after it.
  • Live-only layers are off: the book profile, the trade pulse and the bar countdown. The price tag on the axis shows the close of the replay bar.
Note

Replay reads the history the chart has loaded. Scroll left before you start to load older bars. Footprints and heatmap further back come from what the data hub’s recorder recorded.
