Profiles

Volume profiles for the visible range and per session, and TPO Market Profile.

Profiles turn time sideways: they show how much traded, or how long price spent, at each price. Flowscope has three, all in the Profiles group of the indicator dialog.

StudyShort nameBuilt over

TPO Profile (Market Profile)TPOEach session, in fixed periods

Every profile marks the point of control (POC, the price with the most volume or time) and the value area (the range around the POC holding a chosen share of the total, 70 % by default) with its high (VAH) and low (VAL).

Settings

Every profile’s settings open from the cog on its legend row, in tabs: Display, Row / Scaling, POC, Value Area (and Session for session profiles), then Style for colours, widths and line styles, and Aggregate for its markets. The POC, VAH and VAL lines take a solid, dashed or dotted style in the Style tab.

Visible-range volume profile

Traded volume at each price for the bars currently visible. It updates as you pan and zoom.

Markets builds the profile from another market of the coin, or several summed, over the time on screen (the legend says VPVR 70 · Bybit). See Markets of an indicator.

Row values writes each row’s volume (its delta with delta colours) on the row when there is at least 15 px of drawing height. With automatic rows, the profile reserves 17 px including spacing and rounding so the numbers fit. Threshold highlighting changes the colour while preserving the selected quantity, bar length and value label.

Session volume profile

One volume profile per session, drawn inside the session’s bars, with developing POC, VAH and VAL lines that show how the levels moved while the session formed.

Naked levels

A finished session’s POC, VAH or VAL is naked until a later bar trades through it. A gap past the level counts, the forming bar does not. Extend naked POCs and Extend naked VAH / VAL run those lines on to the right edge of the chart while they are naked, and stop them at the bar that traded through. Naked levels on the price axis tags each naked level of the sessions in view on the scale, in its line’s colour.

The developing POC is shown by default; the developing VAH and VAL start hidden. Turn them on in the study’s Style tab.

TPO

The TPO profile (Market Profile) assigns a letter to each period of a session and stacks the letters at every price the period traded. Wide rows are prices where the market spent time; thin rows are prices it moved through quickly.

Use it in two ways:

  • as the TPO (Market Profile) chart type, which draws the profiles in place of bars, or
  • as the TPO Profile study over any chart.

TPO Settings has twelve sections: General, Session, POC, Value Area, Poor High / Low, Single Prints, Tails, Markers, Price Marker, Price Source, Initial Balance and Volume Profile. The legend’s settings control opens them directly. Templates preserve these options, colours and price markers.

The default view draws letters on square blocks: blue value-area rows, grey outside rows, a pale POC and green single prints. The POC ray is solid; VAH/VAL rays are dotted. Value-area fill, initial balance, tails, poor extremes and the volume profile start off.

Letters adapt to both row height and period-column width, between 7 and 13 px. They remain visible while they fit; smaller cells keep their blocks. In the TPO chart, changing the candle timeframe preserves session density, including daily and weekly source bars. The session period and block duration are separate settings.

Split by blocks assigns a column to each period instead of compacting occupied letters to the left. Last session splits only the forming session.

The selected block duration requests its own candle series when the chart interval is longer. Until those candles arrive, available chart candles provide a coarser profile; replay uses the replayed chart bars. Volume profiles use recorded footprint cells when available and distribute candle volume across its range otherwise.

Naked POC, VA and poor-extreme rays stop at a later candle that trades or gaps across their price. Naked single-print and tail fills stop at the first later candle overlapping their price band.

Rows

The visible-range and session profiles, the TPO and the Order Book Profile size their rows the same way:

Row sizeRows
Auto (default)Sized for you: a share of the session’s typical range (sessions, TPO), the zoom (visible range, book)
GlobalThe market’s Global ticks per row, shared by every layer set to Global and by the footprint. Set it from the TPR chip in the bottom bar (see below) or in the layer’s settings
CustomTicks per row of the layer’s own

Larger rows group more prices into one, so a profile reads without zooming in.

The TPR chip in the bottom bar shows the active chart’s global value (TPR: Auto while it has none) and opens Ticks per row: the active chart’s pair with Set value or its value, and every pair that has one. Auto beside a value drops it, and that pair’s Global layers size their rows automatically again. Changes apply as you type; Cancel restores what was there. The command palette has it as Ticks per row….

Sessions

Session profiles and TPO share one session setting.

New York09:30–16:00New York (EST / EDT)Mon–Fri
CustomYour start and endUTCThe weekdays you tick

Exchange sessions follow the local clock including daylight saving time, so London opens at 07:00 UTC in summer and 08:00 UTC in winter.

For a Custom session you set a start and end time in UTC (default 13:30–20:00) and tick the weekdays the session starts on. An end at or before the start wraps past midnight. The custom fields appear in the settings only when Custom is selected.

How profiles stay fast

A finished session is computed once and kept as long as its bars do not change. When history arrives, a cheap fingerprint of the bars decides whether to recompute. The forming session is extended from its newest bar a few times a second.

Profile levels feed the legend, the data window and the price-axis tags like any other study value.

  • Footprint shows the same volume-at-price idea inside every bar.
  • Naked POCs mark per-bar points of control that price has not revisited.
